In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
– Romans 8:26 NIV
One of my friends in Christ told me a certain time ago that she feels weak to pray, she told me that her worship life was dwindling rather than increasing. She sincerely told me that often times she would love to worship but inside of her she lacks that ability to worship.
God gave me a message for her. I told her that she cannot worship effectively without the Holy Spirit. She told me she is not sure of the presence of the Holy Spirit “sometimes I feel his presence, sometimes it seems I have to go search for him” she told me. When she visited my office I told her that the presence of the Holy Spirit is always evident! If he is there, you don’t guess… You’re sure! I held her hands and we prayed!
She was very sincere, with tears in her eyes, with pleas in her lips and with an open heart, she requested for the Holy Spirit.
Just like it was written
“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:11
The spirit was generously given to her. She began to speak in tongues and every where was filled with worship.
The next day, I picked up my phone and saw her SMS, she wrote “there is a strength from nowhere that leads me to worship and pray, even when I am weak…”
You cannot pray effectively without the presence of the Holy Spirit. Every Christian must have the Holy Spirit! It is a necessity.
One weakness of humans, compared to God, is in our limited knowledge. We do not even know what is happening on the other side of a wall, let alone the other side of the country. We also do not know what people are planning to do, but the Holy Spirit knows everything. And He will help us to pray accurately and effectively.
One way the Holy Spirit helps us in prayer is by giving us utterance in a language for prayer which we have never learned. Thus we can bypass our minds with their doubt and lack of understanding of what is best, and pray according to the perfect will of God.
1 CORINTHIANS 14:2
For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who hope for His lovingkindness, To deliver their soul from death And to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him, Because we trust in His holy name. Let Your loving kindness, O LORD, be upon us, According as we have hoped in You.
