And that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 4:6-8 NIV

Let’s consider what Paul meant by taking “advantage”. A young committed Christian lady once complained that the reason she had sex and lost her virginity was because her boyfriend told her he can only believe she loves him if she takes the relationship to next levels. I have almost been a victim of such when a friend of mine told me that if I truly love her, I should be having sex with her. There are also many other instances aside sexual cases.

It is very wrong for Christians to act in such way! Like Paul rightly said

” God will punish all those who commit such sins”

We have not been called to live a life of sin! We have been called to live Holy life! Don’t let anyone deceive you, we are not permitted to live like the world! A Nigerian is expected to live like a Nigerian, that does not mean the Nigerian cannot decide to live like an American and speak like them! In same manner, Christians who decides to live like unbelievers will not find it cool at the day of reckoning… They will be judged like unbelievers!

When we are not conformed to the traditions of God, we are less representer of God’s kingdom. No wonder, Paul added

“…so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders…”
(1 Thessalonians 4:12)

When Christians reject living Holy lives, they are rejecting God himself! I want us to understand this concept! At the point of conversion, every Christian is made Holy (positionally) but not every Christian became practical about the nature that have received. Practical holiness means giving the Holy Spirit the chance to continue the work in us! Just like we accepted Jesus before we became positionally Holy, we must also accept the leading of the Holy Spirit. That is why the Bible said

“… Those who are led by the Holy Spirit are sons of God…”

You were made Holy! Then, you must live Holy!
Do you know why you were made Holy? Anyone who have not received Jesus, have not actually received the power to live like him! So God is not demanding holiness from you, he is demanding results! He already made you holy and so you ought to live it out! So both in your making and in your doing, it is still God who takes the credit!

The only sure way to live like Christ is to

“…set your hearts on things above, where Christ is… Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:1)

Let your hearts and mind not be focused on earthly things but on the things above! That is how to live beyond this earth.

I’ve still got good news for some people! Are you a Christian who is yet to live like one? Don’t be afraid! Don’t think God is disappointed in you! You can only get in for the worst when you reject this very message! All you have to do is to set you focus to the things above!

PRAYERS: Lord, thank you for making me Holy. I also trust that you can help me live Holy life through your Holy Spirit as I set my heart and mind on you!
