“Good morning sir! Sir someone ask me this question, the guy is my friend. Now the question is, can the power of God course someone not to be intelligent? The only thing he told me he can do is school and his calling in life. But their is a problem, this guy is in school now but decided to drop because of his inability to pass. He is in fifth year(part-time student) he went to a man of God they told him that the power of God is much on him that why he is not doing well in school. Sir how possible is that?” – Emeka, Nigeria

People will keep saying what they want to say, that doesn’t make their statement true or relevant. That a Pastor said something doesn’t make it true. The scriptures was clear in this issue, we must test every spirit. How do we test every spirit? It is by studying the scriptures. In 1 John 4:1, the Greek word used for test is ‘δοκιμάζετε’ (dokimazete) which means a process of approving or disapproving. If that is the case, what does the bible say about approval? Paul asked that we study to show ourselves approved. That is to say, when we minister without the knowledge of God’s word, we may be inspired by the wrong spirit. In 2 Timothy 2:15, the word used for approved came from the same source as that of 1 John 4:1, here we have ‘δόκιμον’ (dokimon) for ‘approved’. The bible is very clear on that. We don’t discern spirits by closing our eyes and thinking or by waiting for revelations outside God’s word but by checking if the spirit is in line with the word of God.

Now, we are going to test what the so called Pastor said concerning your friend. He said your friend is not doing well as a result of God’s power in him. Hmmm, how true is that? Does God’s power make people unintelligent? Joseph of Genesis prospered because the Lord was with him. Joseph didn’t only prosper in spiritual sense, he also prospered in physical sense. If he was a student, he will also prosper in school because the Lord was with him. The Bible said concerning Joseph

“The LORD was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.” Genesis 39:2 (NIV)

What about Daniel? In Daniel 6:3 the scriptures said

“Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.” (ESV)

Daniel had an excellent Spirit in him, the Spirit is a spirit from God. The power of God was much on Daniel but that power only made him exceptional! I can go on and on with lots of examples and stories in the bible where people who had God’s power in them succeeded beyond the norm. None of them became unsuccessful or unintelligent because of God’s power! Therefore with regards to this, that Pastor or Prophet who accused God’s power of being responsible for your friends inability to understand can only be speaking under the influence of a bad spirit if your report is true about his statement.

So let’s forget about what the Pastor said and focus on your friends problem. Your friend is in his fifth year of studying for a degree certificate. You made no mention of carry covers and all that and I am wondering how he made it to the fifth year if he isn’t smart. That’s not my area of concern anyway. First of all, I have answered your question, God’s power can only make one intelligent and smart enough, it can also give one direction. In that respect, your friend needs to believe in the finished works of Jesus if he have not. There is a verse in the scripture which I will like to draw your attention to. James 1:5

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (NIV)

You see this? Wisdom comes from God and it always available when we ask of it according to the will of God. It is God’s desire to make us wise. Your friend must first of all get born again. If he is not born again, he should read this: https://georgennad.wordpress.com/prayer-for-salvation/ and he should pray the prayer contained therein.

After being born again, he can comfortably ask for wisdom from God. He shouldn’t beg for it, he should ask and it shall be given to him. Jesus said in Matthew 7:11 that God is always ready to give his children good gifts.

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (NIV)

Wisdom is among that good gift, you receive it when you ask for it. It may sound unbelievable but its true. I have lots of testimonies from diverse people I may not share here but many of them have only asked and believed and it happened! When you ask for wisdom or anything from God, Jesus didn’t say you will wait or check if you have received it. No! When you ask, don’t check whether it has been done, just thank God believing it has been done and you will see it come to pass. I don’t know if you understand it but I wish you do, at least for the sake of your friend. Let me show you the last verse I am quoting here.

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” Mark 11:24 (NIV)

Let me explain this verse as I round up on this question. Jesus said that whatever you ask for in your prayers, you can’t get it when you don’t believe you have gotten it. He said you will have it after you have believed that you have received it. Look carefully again, Jesus didn’t say you will have it if you believe you will receive it! Don’t believe YOU WILL receive it, believe that YOU HAVE received it even when you don’t feel it or see it. It is only when you believe that you have received it that you will have it.

There are attitudes of someone who have believe he have received it even without experiencing anything. Such a person is full of thanksgiving to God, he is thanking God for something that has been done and for something that will be done. Such a person can give offerings to God as a sign of appreciation even without seeing results, he is not doing so in order to bribe God, he is doing so because he believes God has done it. Such a person testifies of it to people that God has done it… It may sound crazy because no body is seeing the result but you must believe without seeing. Then a believer of God’s miracles confesses it daily in his life! It doesn’t matter the circumstances, it doesn’t matter if the result is being delayed, it doesn’t matter if the miracles have not been experienced but the person keep confessing that God has done it because God is faithful.

Let your friend get born again, let him ask for wisdom and let him continue confessing that the wisdom of God is at work in him. He will take a step of faith by continuing with his education because faith without acting it out is dead.

God bless you.
