Perhaps I haven’t noticed this is trending on Facebook today in Nigeria about never marrying a woman who cannot cook nor pray for one hour. Perhaps its because I usually don’t like following trendy and hot stuffs… However, in this, I cannot be silent!

I am not happy that whenever marriage is mentioned, women are placed or seen as the only people who have something to do for a marriage to work… Men see marriage as something very important to women and unimportant to them. Men always feel they’re helping out a woman by marrying her.

Both the man and the woman must fight through the storms together! If the woman cannot cook and the man loves her… Take her to catering school… I won’t believe Pastor Adebayo said what was credited to him until I see the video where he said it!

Marriage is the Union of two imperfect persons who vows to condone their imperfections.

What about prayers? Women ought to be prayerful and men too!

While married to Sarah, Abraham cooked! Sarah was there but Abraham did the cooking! When Isaac was old, he demanded for Esau’s food and not even Rebecca’s food. There must be something special about Jacob’s food because Esau even sold his birthright for Jacob’s cuisine…

That doesn’t mean someone won’t develop him or herself before entering into marriage. Personal development for the sake of marriage isn’t a sole duty of the women but of men too! I just hate it so much when men talk about marriage and refer domestic works to women alone!

My wife will not do the cooking alone… I will always surprise her with my little kitchen skills! My wife will not babysit our baby alone… I will also have a nursery in my office. My wife will not drive our children to school alone… Its our duty and not her duty! There is no single domestic work women are supposed to do alone… The husband should assist her as much as he can and not treat her like some sort of modern slave!

My point is that marriage shouldn’t be based on general opinion! You aren’t marrying a house-help but a help-meet.

Let’s see some bible portions..

Genesis 18:7-8

And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetched a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it. And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

Where was Sarah when he was doing this?
Cooking is a quality of every good wife. Assisting the woman in the kitchen is the quality of a loving husband.

Abraham left an example for Isaac… Concerning Isaac the Bible says…
Genesis 26:30

So he made them a feast, and they ate and drank.

I can provide more verse but I believe this serves the purpose.

Update: I have watched the video where Pastor Adebayo said men shouldn’t marry women who cannot cook or pray for one hour non-stop. Well, I still stand by my opinion… That is his opinion. What worked for him may not work for others. I still respect him anyway..
