“It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.” Romans 9:16
Do not pride in your efforts, do don’t boast that you couldn’t fall into certain temptations simply because you were not greedy and all that! Even your efforts and righteousness is dirty to God when you did them depending on your strength.
God is God by all by Himself! God’s mercy makes you what you are and that is why it is dangerous to judge another or condemn another simply because you were able to avoid the mistakes they didn’t avoid.
One of the most powerful thing a Christian can do is to acknowledge the ability of God’s mercy to save the worst sinner and transform them into Saints! Paul did not confess sins or asked for transformation before he was caught up with God’s mercy! Do you know why? Because the Church was praying…
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;” Titus 3:5
God’s salvation is given according to his mercy! No man ever got saved because he had good motives… Even our motives are not good enough! When God’s mercy is shown to you and you acknowledge it, a washing takes place and a renewal that is engineered by the power of the Holy Spirit takes place too.
We became God’s children because of mercy! Peter wrote
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again to a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,” 1 Peter 1:3
My hope is in Christ and not in my strength. My strength can fail me but if Jesus could resurrect from the dead, then transformation is ensured! As long as death couldn’t hold Jesus in the grave… There is nothing that can stop anyone from being saved if only that person can believe.
Our duty as Christians therefore is to give everyone reason to trust God and not reason to fear or regret ever coming to this earth! Because He lives, we can face tomorrow, we must let others face tomorrow too by leading them to God who lives! We must seize every opportunity to showcase the love of Christ rather than the problems of this world. I personally believe that Jesus is not just our personal hope but also our hope for the lost.
We were saved from a condition, others can be saved from that condition too. The Bible says that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us… He did not die because we asked for it, He died because He loves us! Now, we must pray for the salvation of others not because they asked for it but because WE MUST LOVE THEM the way God loves us.
There is a reason for us to live, there is a reason to lead others to life… The reason is because HE LIVES.
