ASKGEORGE®: What is wrong with my spiritual life?

Dear George,

:

I am a Christian. The day I gave my life to Christ, I felt the joy of salvation. After six months, the joy was no longer there, I find it difficult to read my Bible again, I can no longer pray for 2 hours. Sometimes I get mad at myself and my own kind of Christianity. I feel like going back to the altar again, I don’t really know where the problem is from or what is wrong with me.

Dear Lucy,

:

You are not the only Christian who has experienced this, in fact; this has always been what lots of Christian passed through after weeks of given their lives to Christ. However, it isn’t supposed to be like that.
First of all, I would advise you get yourself surrounded by vibrant Christians. Read Christian books and listen to great gospel songs. However, let’s get to the most important stuff!
I would love to clearly say that the joy of salvation did not leave you; you left it because you don’t have the power that rejuvenates you and your mind. In many Christian churches, newly born again Christians are taken to follow-up classes immediately they gave their lives to Christ but that is not supposed! The day you became born again, you were saved from sin and death but you still cannot live fully when you have not received the Holy Spirit. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit has to be the second experience before follow-up studies because it is the Holy Spirit that enables you and refreshes your mind anytime you come across God’s word.
You find it difficult to read the Bible because you don’t understand it when you read it, if you do, you will always want to go back to it. You also find it difficult to pray because you don’t have the strength to pray and you also are limited in your own words. You can only pray what you remember to pray about.
Naturally, every one of us is limited in words and strength and when we base on our natural life, we will be limited in our walk with God. That is why the Bible says in Galatians 5:16-17
“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.”
The desires of the flesh isn’t just sin, it includes retiring out of spiritual activities like praying, fasting, studying God’s word and meditation. These things hurt the flesh and therefore flesh discourages you from them when we live our Christian life in the flesh. The day we got born again, our flesh didn’t get born again, it is our spirit that got born again! So we are spiritual beings in a physical body and only spiritual exercise can keep us spiritually fit!
You cannot walk in the Spirit without receiving the Holy Spirit. Jesus said concerning the Holy Spirit in John 14:26
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you”
You see that? The Holy Spirit enables you for learning through God’s word; He makes your experience with God’s word worthwhile that you will always come back for more. The Bible says our mind needs daily renewal and the Holy Spirit makes it happen through God’s word as we digest them.
The Holy Spirit also enables you to pray as much as you want! He prays through you in a language you cannot understand. Why? When you pray with your sense, you are very limited to what you can say but when you pray in the Holy Spirit, your words are not limited, it may sound foolish to you but it sounds good to God and through that, you are talking directly to God! The Bible says in Romans 8:26
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”
I want you to mark that word “WORDLESS GROANS”. Now you can see it clearly that the Holy Spirit helps us in time of weakness and in time we are short of words! It can only happen when you receive Him. You didn’t receive the Holy Spirit the day you got born again, you only believed the gospel and you were saved! Now, it is time to ask that you be filled with the Holy Spirit.
One of the reasons people don’t receive the Holy Spirit isn’t because God hasn’t given it but because they are expecting it in a certain way. You see, God gives and we receive! That we did not receive doesn’t mean God hasn’t given, it means we just have not received simply because we are expecting something special to happen and therefore fail to recognize that it has already been given.
To receive the Holy Spirit, you don’t need to fast, say long prayers and cry unto God! You just have to say a very simple prayer! Another reason people don’t receive is lack of faith! Jesus said that when we pray, we can only receive it when we have believed it has already been done! Hey… Get it well… Let me say again but in another way. Jesus said that when we pray, the first thing we do after making a request is to believe that we already have it and to give God the praise for granting our request and that is when we will experience it. Check out Mark 11:24
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
Believing that you have already received it clears every doubt that is trying to surface. You don’t have to feel anything, you don’t have to fall under anointing, and you don’t have to see any extra ordinary thing! You just have to believe that you have received the Holy Spirit after you have prayed the simple prayer that will come after this.
The moment you receive the Holy Spirit, you receive the ability and gift to speak in other tongues. Read carefully, speaking in tongues is necessary for your spiritual growth. The Bible says when we speak in tongues, we are edified (built up) and we are also communicating directly to God. By speaking in tongues, we aren’t just communicating to God, He is also communicating to us and it is in this course that we are built up by God’s word that is dropping in our spirit man. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 14:2
“For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.”
When you ask for the Holy Spirit, you have to believe that you have received it and you have to act as one who has received it! You don’t need to feel anything, don’t live by flesh! Open your mouth and begin to speak out those strange words that is been dropped in your heart. Never mind how it sounds, never mind how strange and childish it is, never give room for the devils tricks and never give your mind to other thought. You don’t need to sound like any other person! You just need to speak those words been dropped in your heart!
The Holy Spirit is all you need for spiritual fervency! God is not far away, He is always near, He is always reaching out and seeking for fellowship with you! Now is the time to be activated for the next level!
Are you ready to receive the Holy Spirit? If yes, then pray this prayer:
“My God and my father, Thank you for your son Jesus Christ. Thank you for saving me from sin and making me your child. Thank you for loving me. Right now, I want to receive the Holy Spirit so that I can worship you effectively. It is my desire Lord to live for you and without the Holy Spirit, I cannot do that. Give me the Holy Spirit Lord… I receive it in the name of Jesus. Thank you my God.”
Thank God for giving you his spirit… Open your mouth and begin to say whatever comes into it… It is not God that forces you to speak… It is you who opens your mouth and speak.
Enjoy your new levels and continue in this might!
