What does it really mean to BE LIKE GOD?

When we got born again, we were made to be like God but then we have a duty of consciously acting like God! Paul said that since we are God’s dear children, we must TRY to be like Him. (Ephesians 5:1-2)

In verse 2, Paul gives a summary of what it means to be like God… He said we must be controlled by love! Just as Christ had loved us and have himself as a sweet smelling sacrifice on our behalf!

I was moved to tears when I came across this portion of the scripture because lots of believers have missed it here especially now that Islamic extremists have sworn never to put down their guns.

Paul didn’t just say we should love but he clearly told us what kind of love we are expected to exhibit! It is not any love less than that which Jesus has shown! What kind of love did Jesus exhibited? The Bible says that while we are yet sinners, Christ died for us! (Romans 5:8) The Bible even called it Christ’s demonstration of love!

Nobody would have said it better than Paul! Remember, Paul experienced God’s grace in a very special way!(Act 9) The Bible said he encountered Christ on his way to persecute believers! Even when believers were supposed to either ignore him or get him killed, they didn’t cast him away! Isn’t that an experience of Christ’s love?

To be like God is to be like Christ! To be like Christ is to love as Christ has loved! It might seem like the most stupid thing to do… But, that’s how we all got saved! No wonder John wrote that God is love (1 John 4:8), he said that whoever does not love, does not know God! He was writing to Christians!

No wonder, when there was persecutions more severe than we are experiencing now, the Church did not fight back physically! They rather turned to God to fight His fight because the fight belongs to God!

Why does it seem God isn’t doing anything anymore? It is because we have taken over the fight instead of leaving it up to God! Yes… We may have been hurt lots of times, we may have been pushed to the wall, we may have been very angry but we must let our lives be controlled by the love of Christ!

When the world is hurting us with so much hate, we can only heal with so much love! Love will always overcome!

Stop hating… Start loving!
