PUT AWAY YOUR SWORD

:

Jesus was being dragged to be killed and Peter just couldn’t stand and watch! Peter knew how Jesus had picked him from nowhere to take him somewhere! Peter knew how terrible life has been for him until he met Jesus who was not just his mentor but his Lord and saviour! Jesus had saved Peter’s life from the waters several times! Peter was there when Jesus calmed the storm, Peter was saved when he tried walking on the waters, his mother in-law was saved from dying! Peter witnessed first hand miracles of Jesus and Peter witnessed the sincere truth and authority in the words of Jesus! Peter even got a revelation from God about the person of Jesus! And now they came to arrest Jesus!

:

Peter had always held himself from dealing with people who insult Jesus! He must have been asked by Jesus to let them be just the same way He asked them to leave the children alone. But, Peter just couldn’t watch this people arrest someone his life belongs to and he had to fight! Before anyone would say “Jack Robinson” Peter had caught an ear! That wasn’t the beginning of his fight, that was just a warning that he is ready to start fighting!

:

Peter displayed a very good quality of a follower because he was ready to fight for who he believes in and he wasn’t quick to fight without a command! He sought for Jesus’s approval in order to proceed with the defense but then, Jesus didn’t approve him of the fight! Rather, Jesus called him to order! Peter displayed the quality of a good follower but never displayed the quality of the messages he receives from his leader! As a great leader, Jesus silently called him to order and also healed the man whose ear was cut! See… Jesus displayed a great quality of a leader and also lived out His message!

:

Perhaps, that was part of the reason why Peter denied knowing Jesus because he could be arrested for attempted murder!

:

However, from this story I would like us to note what Jesus told Peter… He said “put away your sword”(John 18:11). Jesus didn’t ask him to keep his sword, he asked that he put it away! These days, believers are so divided on so many things and we have been fighting! Yes… We may not be shooting guns but there is constant war of words between the learned and the unlearned, the matured and the pre-matured, the babies and the elders! The reason why this fight seem to have lingered is because we are all trying to prove a point! However we are not sent to prove points! We are called to reconcile souls to God! We are called to help the weak become strong even when they insult us! In fact, their insults gives us more reason to love and help them grow! Paul was careful enough to write the following:

:

“Be willing to accept those who still have doubts about what believers can do. And don’t argue with them about their different ideas.” Romans 14:1 (ERV)

:

We must stop trying to defend ourselves and start defending the word! How do we defend the word? It is by living it out so that people will see! By letting people see Jesus in us, they argue less about it! While we may not all agree to certain things, we must understand that the devil rejoices in our disagreements!

:

Let your words be seasoned with GRACE… Paul wrote it this way in Colossians 4:6

:

“When you talk, you should always be kind and wise. Then you will be able to answer everyone in the way you should.” (ERV)

:

No matter what people say to you, you must learn to respond with GRACEfully seasoned words… You should’nt give insult for insult!

:

It’s not in my nature to insult people, it’s not in my nature to abuse anyone… That is because I have been programmed by God’s word to act like Jesus.

:

While He was insulted and abused, Jesus simply said “Father, forgive them. They don’t know what they are doing.”  Luke. 23:34 (ERV)

:

“While He was stoned to death, Stephen prayed for mercy on his enemies behalf and said “Lord, don’t blame them for this sin!” Acts 7:60 (ERV)

:

I know everyone will not agree with me because I know it’s not everyone that knows what I know or how I knew… It will not make me become speechless with the truth! It will not make me stop teaching the truth without boldness but it makes me understand that people will always find reasons to insult me!

:

How about believers fighting in public? Oh… Come on… The world is watching us! Let’s show the world Jesus and not weakness! When we come indoors, we can deal with our weaknesses in love! The easiest way the devil attacks believers is by making them very angry and causing disunity… I refuse to be party to that!

:

I can’t be so angry that I forget I am a redeemed person! I can’t be so angry that I start acting like a devil! No… I have joy in me! The joy of the Lord is my strength! Oh… Glory… Hallelujah! My laughter annoys the devil… When he brings distractions like fights and insults… How do I respond? I laugh, dance, speak in tongues and remind the devil that he is a liar!

:

God bless us! The Church is marching on!
