In the old testament, the word of God as written down by the prophets was often referred to as the book of the law because the law being a shadow of what was to come was what they received and lived with. Now, while they were instructed to meditate on it day and night, what it means to the new creature is not to revise the old testament laws everyday and night but to study and practice God’s word as revealed in Christ Jesus. Let’s see how it was written

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good succes” – Joshua 1:8

The relevance of the above verse to the new creature is that we have understand that when they are talking about the book of the law, they are simply talking about the word of God. So, we are instructed to mediate on God’s word at all times. I saw something very important in this place, a statement that speaks volume. It says “for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous…”. This means that when we mediate on God’s word, we are programming ourselves to be doers of that word. When our mind is filled with the word, we see ourselves living the word without struggles and by so doing, we are making our ways prosperous and we will have good success. Is it that way in your own Bible?

Many people are praying for God to make them a success, they fast and do all manner of things so that God can quickly make them a success but let’s carefully understand what the Bible is saying. God has already provided a means for our success and we have received the strategy of making our ways prosperous. It is us who makes our ways prosperous by meditating and observing God’s word. The Bible didn’t say that when we do so God will make us prosperous but it says that when we do so “we make our ways prosperous”.

How does that happen? The Bible says in Romans 2:12 “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” After asking us not to be conformed to this world, the Bible tells us how not to. It is by being transformed by the renewing of our mind. But then, there is something similar with the previous verse we studied. This one says “that you may be able to prove what is good, acceptable and perfect will of God”. This is something we do ourselves when our mind become renewed. Now, we can only renew our mind by meditating on God’s word at all times. It is when our mind is filled with the word that we begun to produce results based on His word because we can now prove what His perfect will is. Meditation brings about mind renewal and the renewal of the mind affects the results we get.

The Bible says “above all, be careful what you think because your thoughts control your life.” – Proverbs 4:23 ERV. You see that? We can change the way we think by filling our thoughts with God’s word. Our lives are controlled by what we think and that is why meditation of God’s word causes us to prosper. Frank Outlaw was quoted to have said “Watch your thoughts; for they become words. Watch your words; for they become actions. Watch your actions; for they become habits. Watch your habits; for they become character. Watch your character for it will become your destiny.” This is why we must not allow any negative thing have a place in our thoughts. It doesn’t matter how much it comes to us, we must keep rejecting them by meditating and confessing God’s word.

The first verse we read asked that we meditate on God’s word at all times so that we prosper and we saw in the second verse that the reason why we mediate is to get our minds renewed and then the third verse gives us reason why we really need to be mindful of our thoughts; it is because our thoughts controls our life. If you want to experience success today, it is not by fasting, praying and attending deliverance meetings. You must give God’s word it’s place in your life and you see yourself observing it and producing good results.

God bless you.
