Let me make it very brief… I Want lazy readers😂😂😂 to read too… Lol

Jesus said “A thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. But I came to give life—life that is full and good.” – John 10:10 ERV

Wait a second, we have always quoted this part of the Bible out of context especially those moments we do what we call “WARFARE!” We would always say “bind that devil! Jesus said the they come to steal, kill, and destroy…” And we would get intense with the battle! Lol! Even as a new testament preacher, those things that were thought years back had a way of creeping in sometimes and we see ourselves struggling to deal with it! We lived in serious ignorance… What was Jesus saying?

Though the devil’s job description fits into stealing, killing and destroying, Jesus wasn’t talking about the devil in that verse I quoted! Let me shock you small… He was talking about Moses and other Prophets who followed after him up to the coming of Jesus! Really? I felt uneasy the day I understood this truth, I wanted to walk up to Jesus and put up a question “hey Lord… Why call Moses a thief? Why use such words on people who have laboured for you?” But then… I couldn’t.

Just before you think George have come up with another controversy, let me throw it back to Jesus! He should take credit for the controversy because it is Him so said it and I am just quoting Him! Let’s see a previous verse

“All those who came before me were thieves and robbers. The sheep did not listen to them.” – John 10:8 ERV

There was this feeling of uneasiness I had when I noted this! As I am typing it, I still have some feelings about it… You’re not alone! But hey, what you feel doesn’t fault the words of Jesus. He didn’t say “some people…”, He said “All those who came before me were thieves…”, He really meant every one who came before Him including Moses, Elijah and all of those great prophets we lift our caps for. All were all considered thieves by Jesus! Jesus said they came to steal, kill and destroy! God has been vindicated by Himself!

So all those people dying in the old testament were not killed by God, they all died because death was ministered to them! All who came before Jesus were all operating in the ministry of death! God is not a killer, the old testament accused God of committing all those manner of things but the same old testament was sincere enough to tell us that God takes no pleasure in the death of a sinner! (Ezekiel 33:11, Ezekiel 18:23)

All those who came before Jesus were thieves not because they were terrible people by will but because they ministered death to people, they ministered the law which brought death! Concerning them Jesus said “The worker who is paid to keep the sheep is different from the shepherd. The paid worker does not own the sheep. So when he sees a wolf coming, he runs away and leaves the sheep alone. Then the wolf attacks the sheep and scatters them.” John 10:12 ERV. You see why Jesus said what He said? They lacked the capacity to truly save God’s people.

However, we have received a different ministry, the ministry of Jesus, the ministry of righteousness which has life! The Bible says “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation” – 2 Corinthians 5:18 NIV, our work is to bring people to reconcile with God! We are here to say the truth about God, to protect the true God to the world! God is not a sadist, God is love! Concerning the ministry we have received the Bible says “For if the ministration of condemnation hath glory, much rather doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.” – 2 Corinthians 3:9 ASV

All those who came before Jesus came scattering the people, they came with a shadow, they were not sure of who God is! Souls were stolen, people were killed, opportunities were destroyed! What a ministry… The ministry that calls down fire to destroy people! God is mighty to save but even as they wanted to work for God, they were busy scattering God’s sheep and ministering death to them. We have been called to raise people out of the dungeon, to bring life to people and reconcile people to Christ!

Who are thieves? They are those people who are ministering death to people, they are those people who are preaching another message! Some of them still sell holy water, mustard seeds and make merchandise of the gospel! They still demand money for your deliverance! They are thieves. I will summarize with this portion of the Bible “There is no other message that is the Good News, but some people are confusing you. They want to change the Good News about Christ. We told you the true Good News message. So anyone who tells you a different message should be condemned—even if it’s one of us or even an angel from heaven!” – Galatians 1:7‭-‬8 ERV

God bless you!

Hope it’s brief?
