FAITH IN DEPTHS – 2

FAITH IN DEPTHS | 2

When we were in primary school, we were taught that there are five senses which is hearing, seeing, tasting, touching and perceiving. All these are controlled by the brain which is the center of reasoning. Now, you may taste food to actually agree that it is food, you might touch stone to agree that it is stone, you might see green color to agree it is green color but you do not need those senses or brain activity when it comes to God’s word, faith is not senses, faith in the word of God has nothing to do with reasoning the word of God, it simply has everything to do with believing the word without questions. The bible says in Hebrew 11:1

:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”

:

Look at that! Faith is an evidence void of our senses, it has nothing to do with what we see, it rather tells us what to see. Paul explains this in Romans 8:24 saying “for we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man sees, why does he hope for it?” Our salvation is also by faith and not by senses, we do not need to see it, we just need to believe it. In verse 25 of Romans 8, we also see Paul saying that we wait for what we hope for patiently, this is because we believe that God is able to fulfill His word and therefore we do not struggle about it or panic in the process. When we start panicking, we are simply saying that God may not be saying the truth. This is why Abraham and Sarah wanted to help God fulfill His word because they started reasoning God’s word.

:

The word of God is not open for debates, arguments, logics and all of that! God’s word is meant to be trusted. Back to Hebrews 11, I’d still like to point out some truths in proceeding verses that clearly points out that faith has nothing to do with our senses. The writer noted in verse 2 “for by it (faith), the elders obtained a good report”; I can authoritatively say that by senses only bad report is obtainable. Remember the story of Abraham and Sarah, when they reasoned God’s word and tried using their own senses to fulfill the word they brought Ishmael and it is not a good report. It is not a good report that a man will be a terror to every man (Genesis 16:12), this is the product of senses and not of faith. Whatever good reports the elders obtained is by faith, none came by senses. A man of faith is a spiritual man; no wonder the bible says in 2 Corinthians 10:3 NLT

:

“We are human, but we do not wage war as humans do”

This clearly means that believers in Christ Jesus do not act as other humans because they do not walk in senses. Humans fight with their senses and they manufacture weapons with their senses but because we are spiritual people we don’t fight as they fight, we fight with spiritual weapons (vs 4). We are spiritual humans because we are obedient to Christ void of our senses and we destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). Now you see, we understand things differently and we act differently because we are people controlled by God’s word and not people controlled by our senses. The Bible says in Galatians 5:16

:

“This I say then, walk in the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh”

:

How do you walk in the Spirit? Walking in the spirit is not being moody, being religious and all of that! It means never engaging your senses in the things of the Spirit, it means setting your mind on what the spirit desires. You don’t set your spirit on your mind; you set your mind on your spirit. The bearing of your mind should be your spirit and this is only possible by allowing your life to be driven by God’s word. When you walk in the flesh which is your natural senses, you will easily carry out the desires of the flesh. Paul wrote in Romans 8:5

:

“For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the spirit the things of the Spirit”

:

Faith is the only way to connect to spiritual realities because it is the only way out of the natural environment. A man of faith sees reality beyond the natural realms and true faith comes only in one way. The bible says in Romans 10:17 NIV

:

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ”

:

As at the time of writing the above statement, the Apostles never had anything called “New Testament Bible”, the Church then only had the Old Testament bible and the Apostles would write down the revelations of those scrolls which were shadows of Christ. Understanding this would help us understand the quoted verse, Paul talked about faith coming from hearing the message. What message is that? He said the message is heard through the word about Christ. The message isn’t the word about Christ, Paul was talking about the Rhema (message) and the Logos (word about Christ). The rhema is the revelation of the logos; it is on the rhema that faith is built! So faith comes from revelation of God’s word and this revelation comes in the place of the study, hearing and meditation of God’s word. Make no mistakes about it, the entire word of God is pointing to Jesus. Jesus said “I am the truth…” and this means “I am the truth of God’s word”, anyone can make anything out of God’s word, people can even pervert the word and preach the wrong message but Jesus is the truth about God’s word. Now, it is in the revelation of Jesus that faith grows.
