“In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.” – John 16:23

Jesus talking about this time said we will not need to ask Him anything. He said we will rather have direct access to God who will give us whatever we ask in the name of Jesus.

Let me briefly explain to you what the above verse revealed. The Bible never asked us to pray to or through Jesus, we pray in the name of Jesus. What does it mean to pray in the name of Jesus? It means to stand in the place of Jesus and pray, it means to pray in the authority of Jesus.

When Jesus was talking to the disciples, He wasn’t talking as God, He talked as the son who had access to God. He was telling them that they would soon have access just like He does. He was telling them we will become God’s beloved sons too with whom He is well pleased. From the moment we got born again, God started seeing us as Jesus! The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:17
“But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.”
You see that? We became one in Spirit with Christ. Therefore, we have the exact access Jesus had while on earth. To pray in the name of Jesus doesn’t necessarily mean ending our prayers with “in Jesus name”, it means to pray by the authority of Jesus which we have. We have been given the legal right to use the name of Jesus, we have power to function from His office.

Why we don’t pray through Jesus is because we are already in His place. Now, you don’t have to say “we pray and ask through Jesus Christ our Lord”, we don’t pray through Jesus, we pray as Jesus!
