In the days of Elijah, the power of God was made manifest as fire! A fire that disgraced darkness, in 1 King 18:38 it consumed the sacrifice dedicated to Him and disgraced prophets of Baal. In 2 Kings 1:10, the fire destroyed people who didn’t recognise God’s greatness.

In the days of the New Creature, the Holy Spirit was manifested like fire! No longer a fire that disgraces darkness for darkness has been disgraced already! The Bible says that Jesus made a public show of the devil! Colossians 2:15 says “In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross”, they are already shamed forever.

The Holy manifested as fire of conviction, instead of destroying, He reproves the world of sin, this is the sin of unbelief. His aim for this is to bring them to believe in Jesus! Its not what condemnation can do, this is a work of reconciliation which the Holy Spirit does. Unlike what we saw in the days of Elijah, God isn’t destroying unbelievers, He is rather doing the work of reconciliation. The Holy Spirit also convicts the world of righteousness of which Jesus pointed to Himself as the standard saying “because I go to the father”, concerning this the Bible says in 1 Timothy 2:5 “for there is only one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus”

Jesus is God’s standard of righteousness, only in Him are we in right stand with God. The world is convicted of sin, not because of their actions but because of unbelief and Jesus is shown to the world as God’s standard of righteousness. Everything the Holy Spirit does points to Jesus as He said in John 16:14 “He will glorify me, for He will take of mine and will declare it to you.” Jesus is the personification of righteousness, outside Him righteousness don’t exist.

The Holy Spirit also convicts the world of Judgement. Jesus said it, not as something that will start in the future but as something that has begin already before His experience on the cross. On the cross the judgement was passed! Jesus said “the ruler of this world is Judged”, it is not the world as used in John 3:16, He was referring to the system of the world of which the devil is the orchestra. The ruler of that system has been judged and the Holy Spirit is also proving this to the world. The Bible says in Hebrew 2:14 “… so that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil”. The resurrection of Jesus was and is an indication of the complete victory over the devil. So, the Holy Spirit is proving to the world that in Satan’s system, they stand condemned but in Jesus they stand victorious.

The Holy Spirit don’t condemn unbelievers, He influences them to realize that all they need is Jesus. By believing in Jesus, they are free from sin and they are in right standing with God! But by unbelief, they stand condemned. The Holy Spirit in us, makes us reach the unsaved with a burning passion. That tongue of fire, is a burning passion to speak Jesus and get people saved for this is God’s heart beat. With our tongues, we proclaim life! This life is Jesus!

In the days of the new creature, fire is not associated with the destruction or condemnation of people but of their salvation! In this age, we would rather refer to it as “saving fire” than “consuming fire”. Everything that happened in the old testament had it’s purpose and it served that purpose. They are over and we are in a new age. An age where we need to go out there in the power of the Spirit and start preaching Jesus with passion like never before!

Christians are not people settled in a place where they enjoy all the gifts of the Spirit within themselves, they are people on the move! Jesus said in Mark 16:15 ” Go into the world…”, we are on the move in the power of the Spirit to save the lost. We aren’t saving them by our own will, we are allowing God to express Himself through us.

God bless you.
