“And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified”
~ Acts 20:32
There is a place God has already brought you to but you cannot experience it when you aren’t given to the word of God. For example, if you won the American lottery and came to America, you will need to start learning how to truly live like American. It doesn’t change your citizenship even if you aren’t able to speak or write American English but it will affect you and how you relate with others, it may even limit how you enjoy your rights as an American not because of anything other than you not knowing what your rights are. Until you are given to the word of God, you may not enjoy the benefits you have in Christ because of ignorance. Get this:
1. What builds us is the word of God’s grace.
2. The knowledge of our inheritance in Christ is accessed in the word
It is very important to know that it is not just any word that builds us up but the word of God’s grace! The word of God’s grace means the words that communicate the undeserving favour which we have found in God through Christ. It is not the words of the law, the words of works and all that! It is the word of His grace that makes us know what we have in Christ and only then can we access it!
POINT TO NOTE
To commend us to God and the word of His grace is the same as saying “I recommend God and the word of His grace to you.” This is a recommendation every believer should take seriously. Don’t disregard God’s word especially that which expressly communicates His grace because it only in it that you can be built up! When you aren’t given to the word of His grace, what happens is that you stay deceived as the Bible says in Colossians 2:8 “See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.”
“I should stand in the word of God’s grace, I choose to walk in the light of that truth which is able to build me up and communicate to me what I have in Christ Jesus.”
Precious Lord, as I keep beholding your word in humility, may the eyes of my understanding continue to be enlightened that I may keep knowing you and what you want of me to your own glory. Amen
